Tree works for Teens Unite Fighting Cancer
Ground Control is supporting the Teens Unite Fighting Cancer charity in partnership with Tesco, gifting two days of large-scale tree works and site clearance works at their new headquarters at Home Farm in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. Home Farm is a beautiful house and garden that is being transformed into a pioneering retreat for teenagers and young adults living with a cancer diagnosis.
As a regular provider of grounds maintenance services to Tesco, Ground Control was delighted to get involved in the cause through the local Broxbourne Tesco store, donating expertise and labour in large-scale tree works, hedge trimming, and site clearance enabling works to the project.
As an established partner to Teens Unite, Tesco has provided much support to the project and, in return, the charity has hosted CSR and team-building events for Tesco employees at the Home Farm location.
Teens Unite Fighting Cancer exists to improve the lives of teenagers and young adults living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. Home Farm is being transformed into a dedicated retreat to provide support outside the medical environment. Currently, 85% of young people with a cancer diagnosis, don’t have access to outside space, so the project is much needed.
The site will provide accommodation for 20 young people to stay for three to four nights at a time. Onsite, they will have access to a dedicated sports facility, an outdoor kitchen, education, and plenty of outside, community space and holistic support. The project is the first of its kind in the UK. There is no other site like this for teenagers living with cancer outside of the medical environment.
Roxanne Lawrance, Chief Executive of Teens Unite Fighting Cancer said:
Once the project is complete, there will be many more opportunities for charity partners and supporters to use the outside spaces, sports centre, and function rooms for volunteering and team-building days.
