On Tuesday, 15 July, Ground Control colleagues and members of the RNLI Wells-next-the-Sea crew gathered alongside Simon Wiggins’ family to unveil a plaque in his memory.

Since Simon sadly passed away in 2024, Ground Control’s Maintenance division has spent the past year fundraising on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), a charity chosen by Simon while in hospice care. He was inspired by the charity’s lifesaving work and his many treasured seaside holidays with his sons, Lewis and Lucas.

In a lasting tribute to Simon, the plaque at Wells-next-the-Sea lifeboat station celebrates his life and memory, as well as the touching fundraising efforts completed in his honour by his colleagues and friends at Ground Control.

Darren Daley, Maintenance Director, who has championed the charity over the last year, Dave Rees-Jones, Commercial Director, who was Simon’s line manager, and Karl Cunningham, Regional Operations Director, who has been actively fundraising and volunteering in tribute to Simon, all proudly attended the unveiling.

Plaque reading "Fundraised by Ground Control 2024-2025. In honour of the memory of Simon Wiggins, becuse Simon, Lewis and Lucas loved the sea. June 1974-May-2924"

Darren Daley shared:

It is touching to see the plaque unveiled at Wells-next-the-Sea, and to see Simon’s memory a permanent part of this lifeboat station. Alongside this plaque, the culmination of a year's worth of fundraising and volunteering by his colleagues in maintenance is a touching and fitting tribute to Simon, and I am proud to have shared this day with his family.
