Ground Control has been awarded an 8-year contract, retaining the East Midlands licence area with National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), supporting planned and reactive vegetation management works, as well as building long-term network security in the region. The contract, starting in April 2026, is set to be worth over £10m annually and is built on a successful 14-year relationship with NGED (formerly WPD).

The award marks the third successful retention of the contract and means Ground Control will continue to play a part in maintaining critical infrastructure and helping keep the lights on until 2034.

The successful re-award is testament to the high quality of work undertaken in the previous contracts, as well as the professionalism in the bid submission, which showcased how Ground Control intends to continue to innovate services in this area whilst providing a service for nature.

On this contract win, Steve Amison, Utilities & Inland Waterways Director, shared:

I am incredibly pleased to see the hard work of our on-the-ground delivery teams, and a quality submission from our bid team accumulate in this award. Our teams have played an integral part in maintaining the areas around powerlines, and we’re proud to continue this work.
