Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground Reopens to Public

Ground Control is pleased to have been a part of the reopening of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground in Hyde Park, following a comprehensive eight-month renewal project.

As Principal Contractor for the £3 million transformation commissioned by The Royal Parks, Ground Control led the complete reimagining of one of the UK's most iconic playgrounds, creating a space where adventure, imagination, and inclusive play can flourish for years to come.

At the heart of the renewal is an innovative new water play feature that brings the playground to life through its distinctive centrepiece: a handcrafted 12-metre stone crocodile. Designed to spark wonder and encourage exploration, the feature sits alongside extensive improvements that make the playground accessible and welcoming for all children, regardless of ability or background.

The renewal project involved detailed consultation with community stakeholders and comprehensive planning to ensure the new playground meets contemporary safety standards while honouring the legacy of this beloved space. Every element - from the water play feature to the accessible pathways and seating areas - has been thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration and inclusive participation.

The official reopening coincides with Playday 2026, celebrating the value of play in children's development and wellbeing. Families are now invited to rediscover the playground and create new memories in this revitalised space.
