Ground Control is pleased to announce that it has won the £50 million Wales examination contract—a significant milestone that reflects the depth of expertise and trust the company has built across the UK rail network. This success builds on our recent award as one of just three supply chain partners for Network Rail's £300 million Eastern Region Examinations Contract (EREC) Structures Framework.

Ground Control's specialist teams will now deliver comprehensive examinations of the country's most critical railway structures: bridges, culverts, retaining walls, underwater, coastal & estuary, and ancillaries. Using advanced techniques, including underwater examinations and rope access, they will provide Network Rail with the insight needed to keep infrastructure resilient and safe for the millions of people who depend on it every day.

These examinations carry real consequences for real communities, keeping vital transport routes open, reducing disruption, and extending the lifespan of the infrastructure that connects Britain. They also support local employment and skills development, reflecting both organisations' shared commitment to safety, innovation, and responsible stewardship of the environment.

Ground Control's investment in SAS Rope & Rail strengthens its capacity to take on complex projects using low-impact methods, reducing reliance on heavy machinery and cutting the carbon footprint.

Jason Knights, CEO:

Securing the Wales examination contract is a genuine endorsement of our people, their expertise, technical excellence, and dedication. It reflects the confidence Network Rail places in Ground Control to help protect the infrastructure that keeps Britain's communities connected and moving.

Austin Brown, Infrastructure, Rail and Utilities Managing Director:

We're proud to have been chosen to deliver this work for Network Rail in Wales. It's a testament to the skill, collaboration, and commitment to safety shown by our teams and our partners at SAS Rope & Rail. It deepens the trust we've built with Network Rail and reinforces our position as a leader in structural asset examination. We can't wait to get started.

The Wales examinations contract begins on 1st July 2026 and runs for an initial five-year term with up to three one-year extensions.
