Ground Control’s EverCare international outreach
We are incredibly proud to announce our latest donation from the Evercare Fund, which provides £4,000 to support Lorris Wafula, a child with albinism currently living at St. Stephen's Children’s Home in Kenya; a children’s home that provides care, support, and education for orphaned, homeless, or at-risk children.
In March 2026, Ground Control received a grant request from Rev. Margaret Fowler at Christ Church in Billericay, seeking support for Lorris, who, along with one of his brothers, had recently been abandoned. Unfortunately, efforts to trace their family have been unsuccessful.
Living with albinism, which is quite rare in Kenya, Lorris requires specialised sun creams and eye protection to safeguard him from the sun's harmful rays—resources that the children’s home cannot afford. Although Christ Church has collaborated with the children’s home and a local primary school for several years, they were unable to provide the necessary support for Lorris due to the increased costs associated with his care. As a result, they submitted a funding request to the Evercare Fund.
- As part of Ground Control’s commitment to be a force for good and leave a positive impact on the planet, the Evercare Fund exists as the heart of all Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The fund brings a wide range of initiatives focused on sustainability, wellbeing, equity, and community support.
Inspired by Lorris's aspiration to become a farmer, which necessitates extensive learning at the school's allotments and participation in feeding programs, Evercare has donated £4,000 in funding. This amount will be released over the next four years to support Lorris’s health needs and education.
In agricultural communities, Kenyan children are taught how to grow and care for crops such as kale, maize, beans, coffee, and tea. With Lorris now able to spend more time outdoors, he will have the opportunity to learn about these crops as well as how to plant trees like banana, mango, and macadamia, which yield cash crops that help support feeding programs in schools.
Rev. Margaret Fowler joined Ground Control at the Billericay office to receive the funds, with the first portion immediately allocated to support Lorris’s needs.

Lorris' two younger brothers still need support. Without sponsorship, the Children’s Homes face challenges in providing the food, care, clothing, and education these siblings require to grow up safely and stay together as a family. If you’re interested in helping his brothers, Christ Church has created a GoFundMe page for them.
