Stephen Amison

Steve joined Ground Control in 2013 following a successful, decade-long career in FM with Rentokil Initial and Mitie. Joining as Contracts Director, Steve initially led the transformation of a series of highly challenging contracts. With a proven track record of turning around underperforming operations, building high-performing teams and driving business growth, Steve progressed through various roles before taking on full responsibility for the Utilities business unit as Divisional Director in 2020.
As the leader of the Utilities business, Steve brings over 20 years of leadership experience in safety-critical, operationally challenging and commercially complex environments. Under his leadership, the business unit has tripled in size to become the UK’s leading vegetation management provider to Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
Steve has led some of Ground Control’s largest and most notable tender wins, including National Grid Electricity Distribution, Scottish and Southern Energy, Canal & River Trust, The Environment Agency, UK Power Networks and more recently, ESB. Steve has a strong background in transformation and change management and led Ground Control’s first international expansion by setting up a new business in the Republic of Ireland. Most recently, he was instrumental in the acquisition of River and Rural Ltd, a specialist in waterways and flood alleviation. This strategic move has supported the diversification of Ground Control’s service offering and strengthened the company’s capabilities in natural capital and climate resilience.
