Mark Curry promotes new LOcHER initiative at Safety & Health Expo
Discussing Safety Group UK’s initiative, ‘Learning Occupational Health by Experiencing Risks’ (LOcHER), Mark aimed to inspire others to think outside the box, challenging new ways of thinking to ensure the safety and protection of our workforces.
Using various props and engaging examples, Mark demonstrates the dangers of silica dust to the audience, replicating the way he addresses and inspires teams on site to think about their health and exposure to such materials.
Mark said; “It’s about leaving a longer lasting message with the teams, and using different ways of communicating with our workforce. Using LOcHER project, I think we can achieve this. It’s just one more step on the way to a safer community.”
As well as his role at Ground Control, Mark is a Trustee of Safety Groups UK, Publicity Officer for Kent Health & Safety Group and committee member of IOSH South East branch. For his commitment to Health & Safety, Mark was this year named as RoSPA’s Guardian Angel at the recent awards, also held at ExCeL London in June.
Alan Plom, ex Head of Agricultural Safety at HSE tweeted; “Mark proves you don’t need paper or PowerPoint slides! The simple demo of max silica exposure limits visually on a penny and a spoon was enlightening. I’m thinking of more examples already.”
Chris Pike added; “We can all learn so much from the #LOcHER approach, and few get it across with the energy and enthusiasm as Mark. Well done Mark, great to see a master at work.”
