Lenka’s Fight

Lenka’s Fight

We are devastated by the news that our friend and colleague, Lenka in the Finance team has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Iโ€™m sure everyone in the Ground Control family will want to support Lenka in her battle against the disease.

Lenka has asked us to share the following message to encourage everyone to be aware of and to look for signs of cancer.

I’m donating my hair to the Little Princess Trust; www.littleprincesses.org.uk.

Lenka’s Fight ๐ŸŽ—

“I think it’s so important to be made aware that cancer does not discriminate; it can happen to anyone of us. The key is to catch it early, know your body, take your time to check yourself regularly, and seek medical advice if anything feels different.

Catching it early for me has been a blessing, and although it is invasive breast cancer, I feel incredibly lucky to have caught it in time to treat it.

I am blessed to have an incredible support network around me. My loving husband and son, close friends, family, and work who are being super supportive. I have no doubt I’ll be back to my normal self in no time. Thank you all for being strong with me.

MY BOXING GLOVES ARE ON! LET’S DO THIS! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽ—”

Knowing your own body and screening are important in finding cancer early. Find out about screening here. Cancer Research UK has produced this great booklet on spotting cancer early.

If you’d like to share your own experiences or get information on Lenka’s cancer or her on-going journey, feel free to email her. Lenka will pick up emails as and when she can.

Ground Control Marathon

Lenka is raising money for Macmillan and has invited everyone to join in! We will be taking part in a Ground Control Marathon – all you have to do is run, jog or walk 26.2 miles over the next month. If you are super fit and a little bit crazy you can do it all at once, or you can do a mile a day! We will be running a competition for the furthest, fastest and possibly most enthusiastic runners.

We will be fundraising via JustGiving here, and you can join the Ground Control Marathon Club on Strava. This is a great opportunity to get in some exercise and raise money for an amazing charity.
