Keeping our Communities Clean
Ground Control recently teamed up with Havebury Housing Partnership, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and local community members to help improve our environment. We were involved at a range of litter picking events taking place at the Priors, Nowton and MildenHall estates.
The incredible efforts put in by all involved, aimed to bring communities together in a bid to create a cleaner and safer neighbourhood for residents. Ernie Broom, Chairman of the Howard Estate Association of Residents and Tenants (HEART), hopes the latest litter prevention project will help to inspire and inform local children and community members of the effects of littering and the alternatives available to us.
Shaun Field, Regional Contracts Manager, personified Ground Control’s motto of going the extra mile for our people;
“Littering is a big issue in many areas across the UK, we hope by taking part in these community projects, we can lead by example and encourage people to take the right course of action. As a company, the environment is at the forefront of everything that we do so we were delighted to be involved alongside members from Havebury Housing and St Edmundsbury Borough Council.”
Among the litter there were a few unusual items found; including a kettle, a Native American dream catcher and a One Direction bag. Residents also found a trolley, cardboard boxes, shattered glass and other household items. Littering can have hugely detrimental impacts on the environment with over 70,000 animals hurt by litter every year. We are delighted to have been able to play a small part in improving our environment.
