Ground Control Win Exciting Construction Project at Riverwalk, Vauxhall Bridge
The construction team are due to commence work on the exciting new scheme for Sir Robert McAlpine at the start of February.
As part of the contract, Ground Control will carry out all elements of hard landscaping around the building, which sits on the North embankment of the River Thames opposite the MI6 building.
Works include a new granite stone and resin bound gravel walkway to the river elevation, resin bound rubber play areas, a detailed granite sett and granite kerb entrance area including turning circle and entrance yard, the laying of bespoke granite radius definition and level change kerbs around the site, and the relaying of concrete paving to the surrounding public realm footpaths on Riverwalk and Vauxhall Bridge Road.
Ground Control’s Construction Manager, Matt Hallam, who is leading the project commented on the challenges ahead:
“This is an exciting opportunity to provide a high end and bespoke hard landscaping scheme for Sir Robert McAlpine; a new GC client. The site however possesses many challenges which will need to be overcome by our team: limited logistic possibilities and small working areas, very limited storage space, meaning we can only drip feed materials in as and when we need them. The various changes in levels is another challenge to be overcome, not to mention the detailed nature of laying many radius kerbs and offsetting complex granite paving and sett patterns from these. However, with all this in mind, I am confident the setup we have in place and the good relationship we have already developed with the client will stand us in good stead to complete the project in good time and to the high standard expected.”
