Ground Control team with Costain to deliver 5* project for Thames Water
Ground Control recently undertook a large vegetation clearance project for Costain at Thames Water’s
Riverside Sewerage Treatment plant in Rainham
Ground Control was enlisted by construction giant, Costain to carry out enabling works, clearing vegetation ready for the installation of a new security fence surrounding the whole perimeter of Thames Water’s Riverside site.
Leading the project was Contract Manager, Chris May, with outstanding support from Mark Carey and his team. Contracted for a total of 5 weeks, Ground Control fulfilled all expectations, with the team achieving maximum full points on every aspect of their audit with the client.
Chris May commented; “This project is a fantastic example of the great working relationship we have with this customer. It was refreshing to work as a team… managing health and safety more as a partnership, reviewing RAMs together, making suggestions and working towards what has become a great outcome.”
With a lot of ground to cover throughout the 5 week duration, the Ground Control team identified a range of invasive species, including Giant Hogweed, Japanese Knotweed and Hemlock. With a significant spread of Giant Hogweed across the site, with the guidance of Costain’s in-house ecologist, teams cleared the area using robotic mowers before spraying and eradicating the weeds.
Chris added; “The team worked closely with Costain supervisors and an ecologist throughout, and everyone seemed so focused on health and safety and the delivery of the task in hand. From attending daily morning briefings, and discussing the project, inductions, toolbox talks; the free flowing information was some of the best I have ever seen. Costain’s Site Supervisor, Keith Farmer did a sterling job managing the site.
Our team on the ground did an excellent job throughout, even amidst the extreme heatwave. The quality of work was extremely high and the technical knowledge displayed when dealing with the invasive species and reporting to the client has been extremely impressive and it made me extremely proud to be in a room whereby a client was so happy with every aspect of what our team achieved. Huge well done all round for a great project!”
