Ground Control Take Home Principal Award at BALI National Landscape Awards 2015
Ground Control scoop Principal Award in Community and Schools Development category for inspiring project at St Giles Churchyard, London.
Ground Control, the UK’s fastest growing independent external landscape solutions provider, has won the prestigious Principal Award in the Community and Schools Development category at the BALI National Landscape Awards 2015. Held on Friday 4th December at Grosvenor House in London’s Park Lane, the event also saw Ground Control pick up five other awards including Employer of the Year.
With close to 1,000 BALI members in attendance, Ground Control won the Principal Award for its work at the St Giles Churchyard in London. Appointed by London Borough of Camden, the work on the historic site included new hard and soft landscaping elements, as well as extensive renovation works to existing hard landscaping and boundaries. Ground Control worked very closely with the London Borough of Camden, the Diocese of London, architects and archaeologists to restore historic pavings, railings, gates and structures throughout the churchyard.
Andy Harris, Construction Manager for Ground Control, says: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this prestigious award, and would like to thank everyone involved for the hard that went into this project. We had many challenges along the way, including restoring the entire external area whilst keeping the church and vestry fully operational and delivering materials on to the site in the most efficient manner possible. Well done team!”
“The grounds of this church were completely overgrown and a magnet for anti-social behaviour,” added a BALI Judge. “Funding secured by Camden Borough Council has transformed the grounds into a welcoming space that is widely used by local residents, workers and visitors for relaxation. Working closely with the landscape architects and the council, Ground Control has completely refurbished the entire site utilising existing stone and incorporating it seamlessly with new materials to retain the sense of antiquity and heritage.”
The win follows a successful couple of months for Ground Control, after being announced as Essex Business of the Year and Best Growing Business, as well as being shortlisted as finalists in the UK Customer Experience Awards.
