Ground Control offer training and career opportunities to ex-servicemen

Neil Huck HighGroundGround Control has been working alongside charity, HighGround to offer resettlement opportunities for ex-Armed Forces veterans.

HighGround’s mission is to provide jobs, careers and vocational opportunities for Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans in the land-based sector.

The charity helps individuals to identify how to put their military skills and experience to best use for a career in our sector where problem solvers, motivated, outdoor people with strong teamwork and communication skills are at a premium.

Working alongside HighGround, National Training Manager, Neil Huck will be visiting Bickton College, Exeter, to deliver presentations to 4 groups of individuals who have expressed an interest working in the horticulture and landscaping industry.

Ground Control currently offers a range of work experience schemes across the country, giving the training and qualifications needed to improve employment prospects. Ground Control aims to provide support to young people in and out of school and to jobseekers looking to develop new skills and get back into work.

Mark Keller, Regional Operations Manager, joined the company in 2013 after 20 years in the military. Following relevant training and time out in the field, it was not long before he was managing his own team and made a leap in his professional career to Ground Control. Today, from a background in commanding units in Afghanistan, Mark manages a corporate team in the Midlands, Wales and the North of England.

National Training Manager, Neil Huck comments; “We are excited to be working with HighGround, bringing fresh minds into the industry and giving people a great start to their new working life. As a leader in our field, we have the ability to provide the support, training and supervision they need to become qualified operatives in the field. This initiative could help Ground Control with recruitment in supervisory and management positions where these individuals have strong leadership skills and experience. They have a lot of the attributes we look for in teams across all departments.”
