Ground Control join Green-Tech in trialling tree pit solutions at Greenwich University
The Greenwich University trial project is a 5 year study which aims to test, understand and compare how structural tree planting systems work.
The study involves all the main products on the market at present and is the first time all systems have been installed together in one big test environment. The trial involves the planting of 3 identical tree pits. Although the study is designed to test the structural capabilities and growth within each system, the site used is a soft planting field and won’t be trafficked very frequently. As this is a controlled trial, the dimensions and levels were all set the same. Products installed include:
- ArboRaft (Green-Tech)
- Bourne (ATS)
- GBU (Stratacell)
- Deeproot (Silvacell)
- Landtech (C U Soil)
- Test control (soft planting in existing soils)
On the day, Ground Control assisted with excavation and installation of anchor, Mona & Rootbarrier within Subsoil / ArborRaft soil level, final compaction of soil to demonstrate that the soil can be compacted without structural damage of the soils, and installation of ArborRaft components.
The products will monitored by Hadlow College students over the 5 year period.
