Ground Control expand works at Countesswells
Ground Control was awarded the soft landscaping for the new Countesswells settlement in Aberdeen by WM Donald, as part of a £1billion build by developer Stewart Milne Homes.
Following our win with WM Donald, and off the back of our great client relationships andquality of work, the main contractor Stewart Milne Homes has awarded Ground Control with more work direct to them. This includes another project at Newburgh.
The new parkland surrounding the new development provides play parks, walking and cycling routes, bridges, bridal paths and an orchard, acting as a link between Countesswells Woods and Hazlehead Woods. As well as providing opportunities for recreation and habitat for wildlife, the parkland provides part of the Sustainable Urban Drainage System at Countesswells. This includes drainage networks consisting of basins and pipes which collect water, preventing downstream flooding and deterioration in water quality, by slowing the rate at which the water reaches the watercourse.
As part of the new drainage system, Ground Control planted wildflowers in the basins to provide a colourful and ecologically rich habitat for the environment to flourish. Installation of amenity grass on south facing banks provides sunny places to sit, with large boulders placed in the base of the basins to provide shelter and habitat for small animals and insects. Over 570 trees have been planted to provide further habitat opportunities helping to ensure the parkland at Countesswells becomes a rich habitat for wildlife, as well as a park for people.
In addition to this, and bringing the area to life over a 20 week period, Ground Control delivered a range of elements including; shrub and woodland planting, amenity and wildflower turfing, lime ameliorating to improve soil, as well as assisting with a 3km root barrier installation.
A very exciting project to be a part of, watch this space!
