Ground Control team come together to deliver combined works for largest clients
Ground Control’s Arboriculture team has been working on a challenging synergy project with two of Ground Control’s largest clients; Network Rail and UKPN, to clear high risk trackside vegetation from overhead 132kv lines.
The works at Garston Nr Watford had been parked for some time by UK Power Networks’ tree contractor due to the complexities surrounding trackside access with Network Rail, and the competency requirements to work both trackside and around powerlines.
Having been let down by their previous contractor, UKPN handed works over to Ground Control, with Contract Delivery Manager for Utility; James Sadler, Rail Senior Manager Stephen Gates, and Rail Site Manager Tim Brackenbury, teaming up to deliver the work.
The team worked together to identify control measures so the work could be completed, and more importantly, conducted safely. These measures included a 132kv Shutdown, Return Conductor Isolation, WPP and SSOWP, COSS, Rail Site Manager and a team of DNO Authorised and PTS competent Arborists from GC Arb field teams, lead by Andrew Hollingsworth and Richard Payne.
James Sadler commented, “This job was managed by the Ground Control Arb Division over two weekends, and demonstrates our company’s ability to work strongly as a team to project manage and safely deliver work in challenging and high risk environments.”
