Ground Control Assists Cumbrian Flood Victims in Time of Need
Flood victims in the Lake District have benefitted from an SOS clean-up operation undertaken by Ground Control. Project Manager Andrew Humpage helped out on the ground in Keswick, and much needed supplies including first aid kits, baby food and accessories, toiletries and towels were provided by Ground Control.
Throughout the day, Andrew assisted residents and aid workers with everything from general clean-up activities to transportation and logistics to making sure people were safe and had the supplies they needed to carry on living.
“It was heart-breaking seeing just how much devastation was caused not only to the houses and properties with white goods and sofas littering the pavements, but also seeing arboretums and parks that have been destroyed by the sheer force of the floodwaters,” commented Andrew. “What has come out of all of this though is the amazing community spirit we encountered. Volunteers came from all over the North West to help out, from giving donations to shovelling silt from peoples’ homes. It was truly inspiring to see.”
Marcus Watson, Managing Director of Ground Control, adds: “What has happened in the Cumbrian region is horrific, and one can only imagine the heartache everyone affected is going through. Alongside Andrew’s help on the ground, we wanted to provide much needed supplies to add to the ongoing recovery work already happening. Finally, all of the team and contractors associated with Ground Control pass on their best wishes to all involved.”
Marcus continues: “Moving into 2016, there are other ways we can help. For example, when planning our holidays, which many of us will do over the Christmas break, we can review where we spend our holiday money. The Lake District and the Eden Valley are fabulous holiday destinations which would welcome returning customers and new holiday makers alike. There is nothing better than a thriving local economy to rebuild communities. From a personal perspective, I will be arranging my summer holiday in the Eden Valley and would recommend this area and the Lake District as wonderful places to relax with your friends and family.”
