Fast-expanding Ground Control to take home six BALI National Landscape Awards
Industry honours mirror dynamic business development strategy and fuels senior level recruitment programme
Ground Control, the UK’s fastest growing external landscape solution provider, has won a record-breaking six BALI National Landscape Awards this year.
The six prestigious awards from the British Association of Landscape Industries represent an unprecedented haul for the exponentially growing company’ with the total now standing at 20 stretching back to 1985.
Ground Control’s Managing Director, Marcus Watson, explains how the award wins mirror the success of the fast expanding nationwide business. “The BALI Awards showcase the high quality we deliver to an ever growing number of customers who have an eye for detail and a need for precise and cost-effective delivery. Ground Control’s award winning schemes include Queensland Terrace, London, which has gained recognition in two categories; ‘Hard Landscaping Construction (Non-domestic) – Construction Cost Between £300k – £1.5m’ and ‘Green Roof Installations and Roof Gardens’. Ground Control was awarded the prestigious hard and soft landscaping by Barratt Homes to create a high quality, tranquil outdoor living space as part of their £128m housing development.
Ground Control’s project at St Giles Churchyard, London, has been awarded in the ‘Community and Schools Development’ category. The project involved landscape restoration and renovation of the church grounds, consisting of new hard and soft landscaping elements, as well as extensive renovation works to existing hard landscaping and boundaries.
Other winning schemes for Ground Control include Payers Park and Forty Hall, which have both gained recognition in the ‘Restoration and Regeneration Scheme’ category. The project at Payers Park, Folkestone, included extensive landscaping and redesigning to turn the once dilapidated and negatively perceived area into an oasis of green space with a range of amenities. Ground Control’s winning scheme at Forty Hall, London, was part of a Heritage Lottery funded project to restore the grounds to their original layout with reconstruction of some features that had been lost.
Ground Control has also been selected as a winner in the ‘Employer of the Year’ category, providing strong recognition of the company’s commitment to its people.
Greg Allen, chair of the adjudication panel, commented on this year’s entries:
“Our BALI Awards judges have again travelled the length and breadth of Britain visiting some truly outstanding landscape schemes created and maintained by BALI members. The standard of workmanship achieved, whether in the domestic, commercial or public sectors, is inspiring and with so many excellent entries this year the task of selecting the Principle Award winners has taken hours of collective deliberation by the adjudication panel.”
Ground Control’s Senior Construction Manager, Neil Walby, concluded:
“To follow up our great success at last year’s BALI awards, with six finalist awards at the very least this year, is real recognition from the highest level of our industry that Ground Control is a leading landscape company producing excellent outdoor spaces. Great credit goes to all involved in each of these projects as they are always challenging and require considerable understanding, skill and determination on all levels to complete to such a high standard – well done everyone.”
The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 4th December at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London, and all Principle Award, Special Award and Grand Award winners will be announced on the day.
