Double Green Flag success for Ground Control
Ground Control is proud to reveal that Croydon Cemetery and National Maritime Museum have both retained Green Flag status this year, recognising them some of the best green spaces in the country.
Mitcham Road Cemetery in Croydon is this month celebrating its eighth Green Flag Award; the highest possible accolade in the horticultural industry. Last year, the National Maritime Museum became the first museum ever to be awarded Green Flag status.
The award, run by environmental charity ‘Keeping Britain Tidy’, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Mitcham Road Cemetery has been open since 1897, and Ground Control has been proudly maintaining it since 2012. The contract includes maintenance of the 51 acre site and involves caring for the 7,000 memorial roses and creating bedding displays as well as keeping the grass, hedges and borders tidy. Ground Control’s long standing and experienced dedicated team of 7 also offer help with bereavement services, providing assistance with burials and any other matters the client might need to ensure the smooth running of the cemeteries.
The National Maritime Museum has been up kept by Ground Control since 2004. Throughout Ground Control’s tenure at the museum, the site has won many awards, including British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) National Landscape Awards, London in Bloom and now its second Green Flag Award.
Ground Control’s contract with the National Maritime Museum covers all elements of grounds maintenance across the 12 acre World Heritage site, surrounding the National Maritime Museum, the Queen’s House and Royal Observatory.
