Croydon Cemetery Awarded Green Flag
Mitcham Road Cemetery has been open since 1897, and is now celebrating its sixth Green Flag Award; the highest possible accolade in the horticultural industry.
The award, run by environmental charity ‘Keeping Britain Tidy’, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Ground Control has been maintaining Croydon Cemetery since November 2012 under a contract that includes maintenance of the 51 acre site and involves caring for the 7,000 memorial roses and creating bedding displays as well as keeping the grass, hedges and borders tidy.
The site is maintained by a dedicated team of 7, led by Dave Osborne, which allow us to work in partnership with the client. Our long standing and experienced operatives also offer help with bereavement services, providing assistance with burials and any other matters the client might need to ensure the smooth running of the cemeteries.
Contracts Manager, Peter Mountford, is delighted with the news:
“This award is a great testimony to the partnership we hold with Croydon Cemeteries. A Green Flag Award requires both input from the client and contractor to ensure a long term effective management plan is in place to protect our green spaces. We are both very proud to be awarded this Green Flag for the third year in Ground Control tenure. It is a real credit to the team’s hard work and dedication on site. Well done to all involved.”
