Charity GOAL for Ground Control
Mind offers support and advice to anyone experiencing a mental health problem, while also campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. To fulfil its aims at a local level Mind works in partnership with over 140 independently run Mind charities spread across England and Wales, each of which work to ensure everyone gets the help they need by providing tailored mental health services specific to each local community. As each local Mind works undependably each must raise their own funds in order to provide these services.
Dedicated to raising awareness and funds for mental health, Ground Control staff members arranged a charity 11-a-side football match at local Hannakins Farm, which saw more than 60 spectators come together to support the teams and chosen charity, Mind.
Also on the day, Ground Control staff followed the sports theme, attending work as scuba divers, golfers, cheerleaders, football players, climbers and more. All staff came together at lunchtime for ‘A Question of Sport’ quiz, complete with mystery guest round.
Winter Maintenance Operations Manager James Harris, who led the arrangements of the day commented; “This was our biggest fundraising event yet. A combination of the quiz, fancy dress, the football match and the generous staff at Ground Control has raised over £1400! I would like to thank everyone that was part of, or contributed to a really fun day.”
Lisa Wingrave, General Manager at Mind Basildon commented; “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Ground Control for the support. Basildon Mind now receives no funding from the CCG’s so all donations are greatly appreciated and go towards our continued support of people with mental health difficulties in the local area, the money raised from the football match will go to our Youth Counselling Service which is totally unfunded and can only continue to run on donations and fundraising.”
