Celebrating National Inclusion Week
Celebrating National Inclusion Week, 27th September – 3rd October
This week, 27th September to 3rd October 2021, is National Inclusion week. A week designed to celebrate everyday inclusion in all its forms. The theme for 2021 is about unity. At Ground Control, we support and take action as inclusive employers in everything we do but, here are a few highlights and examples of how Ground Control is: #UnitedForInclusion.
Breaking the cycle of re-offending; Ban the Box
We advocate the ‘Ban the Box’ initiative, with no requirement to declare offences at application stage, giving ex-offenders equal opportunity to gain an interview. Our partnership with the New Futures Network, part of the UK probationary service, helps us offer placements to ex-offenders re-entering society and looking to grow a long-term career in Horticulture.
We are a disability confident company. Our Ground Control talent team have received learning disability training from Mencap to support people with learning disabilities into early career roles, where they would have faced challenges entering the jobs market.
All litter picker and Grounds Maintenance Operator roles are now advertised via Mencap, with our relationship manager to support people into work.
Armed Forces Covenant
We are signatories to the Armed Forces Covenant with Silver Employer Recognition Award to prove it. We work with Walking with Wounded to enhance areas for wounded ex armed forces employees, and we work with Careers Transition Partnership and Armed Forces Families to advertise all our roles and place jobs.
Signatories of The Race at Work Charter
We are signatories of The Race at Work Charter and are currently part of the GLA AND Equal Group Program to encourage more young Black men into the industry. We’re proud to be working with the Mayor of London to encourage more young black men into the sector and hosting our first on-line recruitment drive with The Equal Group on Tuesday 28th September.
This November we will host our first Diversity Networks across Ground Control, encouraging people with lived experience, and allies across the business to come together and inform Ground Control of areas where we can improve to make inclusivity and belonging even stronger in Ground Control.
Bring your dog to work Friday
We allow our employees to bring their dogs into work on Fridays to support health and wellbeing.
