Amanda Wakeling – Senior Key Account Manager

I love being able to talk directly with clients on a daily basis as building relations on a business and personal level is something I have done throughout my working career. I hope that by working hard and building honest relationships and keeping all lines of communication open has helped to contribute towards developing a trusting relationship between my portfolio of clients, my team and also Senior Management. During my time with Ground Control I have been extremely lucky to be promoted to a Senior Key Account Manager and now oversee both our Utilities sector and Prestige clients within the maintenance division.

Although I work normal working hours in the office, sometimes there is no let off once at home. I am often working throughout the evenings in preparation for the next day while also spending time at the weekend to continually offer an excellent service to my portfolio of clients and to my team. This may seem a daunting task but being able to work from home when I am unable to be in office means I can balance work with my family life.

Ground Control is an exceptional organisation when it comes to career progression so I am always targeting the next step in my career. One of my new challenges given to me within the Senior Key Account Management role (SKAM) was to develop training schedules for the Key Account Managers, which is now well underway.  I meet with each new member of my team to mentor and pass on my experience and knowledge to allow them to seamlessly settle into their roles making sure they have all the right tools for the job. I take great pride in seeing them establish and grow within the business.

Being a SKAM involves people management, having good organisation and communications skills as we liaise with our clients, field teams, and teams with regards to the delivery of works to then communicating messages from and to Senior Management, which can be time consuming and sometimes challenging.

The main challenge I face on a daily basis is making sure my teams feel motivated and supported to deliver the service back to their clients to the correct timely standard.  During a very busy season, when everything is growing, and time is against us, this can be challenging. And sometimes despite organising your day, you can still be thrown off course, so I must be adaptable in my approach to work.

Alongside building lasting relationships with clients and fellow team members, my job has given me a purpose in life and has developed a confidence within me that I may not have discovered otherwise, for which I am extremely grateful.
