Ground Control work on exciting new Smith’s Dock development
As part of a new modular housing build at the reclaimed Smith’s Dock site in North Shields, Newcastle, designed by George Clarke of Channel 4’s ‘Amazing Spaces’, Ground Control was enlisted to supply and install all external works to the 34 modular properties.
Working on behalf of Urban Splash, Ground Control’s works included installing paving, decking, bespoke fences and soft landscaping on all properties, across a 15 month period. Ground Control is also set to maintain the sites for a further 2 years.
The properties themselves are manufactured in Derbyshire, including fitting of kitchens, bathrooms and more, which are tailored to suit individual needs as required.
Construction Manager Phil Townsend commented; “This modular build stuff is still new, but will be a big part of our client, Urban Splash’s business going forward – with or without GC! Officially the scheme is a joint venture between Urban Splash and Places for People, who own the land. There is significantly more work to come as part of the Masterplan, but this will depend on take-up of what is currently built. All very exciting, watch this space!”
