Ground Control is RISQS approved for vegetation management, fencing, weed control and ecology. RISQS is the supplier management community (formerly known as Achilles Link-up,) that insures a company is meeting GB Rail industry standards. We deliver quality services throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
Strategic, Robust and Disciplined Management
Our strategically located Rail Managers and teams are highly trained and experienced in working adjacent to the Railway lines and infrastructure. Minor enabling works and vegetation clearance around structures and earthworks can be very complex and challenging, especially with limited access. We have developed robust, disciplined methods of working and techniques that enable our teams to work safely and effectively in this high risk working environment, in all scenarios. For examples, all teams are trained in fall arrest techniques as our assignments often involve working at heights adjacent to unprotected edges.
We fully recognise that effective lineside vegetation management requires proactive maintenance regimes tailored to suit each area and location on site. The key to success lies in our ability to programme the right activity at the right time of year in order to maximise efficiency. This can include repeated treatments to control Japanese knotweed, major de-vegetation clearance and flail strips. Our in-house software programmers have developed smart IT tools for simpler project management planning, recording and performance reporting.
Rail routes provide diverse ecological corridors along which wildlife thrives. Ground Control is proactive in assessing each site for any ecological mitigation that needs to be put in place prior to undertaking any activities. In this way, we are able to reduce any adverse impacts to development. This benefits the project, the environment and the community.
Rail Utility Acquisitions
Ground Control acquired UPM Tilhill’s rail business in 2012. As UPM was a leading forestry and timber harvesting company, this has helped us continue to grow in the rail utility industry, and has made us a key specialist supplier to Network Rail.
